Exhibition – The “Oerboer!”

From hunting camp to farming settlement.

Travel back to Fryslân 5,500 years ago, where the foundations of a completely new way of life were laid.

Through unique finds and remarkable research results, we reveal the world of pioneering farmers in the New Stone Age.

This new exhibition connects seamlessly to the permanent Mesolithic display, where you meet the hunter‑gatherers.

Archaeological Support Point Burgum

Step into the past of Central Friesland.

At the Archaeological Support Point Burgum you discover how people lived, hunted, built, and experimented with the earliest forms of agriculture thousands of years ago.

Among real finds from the region, interactive elements, and surprising stories, a hidden world unfolds — one that literally lay beneath our feet.

Observeum Observatory

During our public evenings on Fridays and Saturdays, you can experience the night sky in different ways.

When the weather is clear, we observe outside through the telescope.

If it’s cloudy, there is still plenty to see indoors, such as the digital planetarium.

Children can ask questions, explore, and get to know the stars in a playful way.

Planetarium

Let yourself be taken on a journey past the planets of our solar system and discover the wonders of the universe.

In our four‑meter dome we project a lifelike 360‑degree starry sky.

For children it is a special experience, full of space facts and surprising images that spark curiosity.
